About GP3 files
A .GP3 file is a musical score and tablature saved in the proprietary format of Guitar Pro 3, a legacy version of the popular notation software by Arobas Music. These files store multi-track data for stringed instruments (guitar, bass, banjo) and drums, including fingering positions, musical notation, and playback effects.
While .GP3 files are compact and widely available on tablature archives, they present significant access barriers today. Being a binary proprietary format, they cannot be opened by web browsers, standard text editors, or typical media players. Opening them requires purchasing Guitar Pro or installing specific open-source tools like TuxGuitar. Furthermore, sharing these files with bandmates who do not have the software is impossible without conversion. A very small fraction of .GP3 files may also be game packages for the obsolete Hansol GameKing handheld console.
To ensure accessibility and usability, users should convert .GP3 files based on their immediate goal:
- For Sharing & Printing: Convert to PDF. This creates a universal visual document of the sheet music that can be opened on any phone or computer.
- For Audio Playback: Convert to MIDI or MP3. This extracts the audio data, allowing you to listen to the composition without the notation software.
- For Cross-Platform Editing: Convert to MusicXML. This standard exchange format allows you to import the score into other professional software like Sibelius or Finale.
- For Modernization: Convert to GP or GPX to utilize the advanced audio engines of modern Guitar Pro versions.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GP3 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted GP, GP4, GP5, 3GP, PDF, XNB, MP4, INDD, ZIP, MP3 and MIDI files.
