About GCM files
The .GCM extension is a source of frequent confusion because it serves two distinct, incompatible communities: retro gamers and laboratory scientists.
Most commonly in the general public, a .GCM file is a Nintendo GameCube disc image (GameCube Master). These files are essentially raw data dumps of the optical disc, often created by older backup tools. The primary difficulty here is compatibility; while technically similar to standard ISOs, many modern tools and emulators like Dolphin prefer the ISO or compressed RVZ format for better metadata handling and space saving. Users typically need to convert .GCM to ISO to ensure the game launches correctly or to RVZ to reduce the file size from the standard 1.35GB.
Alternatively, in scientific settings, .GCM refers to a Gas Chromatography Method file used by software like Shimadzu LabSolutions or Agilent ChemStation. These files store instrument parameters (temperature, pressure, flow rates) rather than results. They are proprietary and locked to the specific workstation software, making them impossible to view on a standard office PC without conversion. For archiving or sharing method details, users should export these settings to PDF or CSV directly from the instrument software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GCM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GCM file to ISO, NCM, NM, MNM, EXE, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4 or BSP, you can use Dolphin Emulator or similar software from the "GameCube Disc Image" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to GCM, try Dolphin Emulator or another comparable tool in the "GameCube Disc Image" category.
The GCM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GCM converter.
