Convert ENM to another file type
To convert ENM databases to another format, you need ENM-Notenmanager or other Database software.
Convert a file to ENM
To convert other file formats to the "External Grade Module File" file type, you need software like ENM-Notenmanager or a similar tool.
About ENM files
The .ENM file extension represents an External Grade Module (Externes Notenmodul), a specialized database container used primarily by the Schild-NRW school administration software in Germany. These files act as offline digital grade books, allowing teachers to securely input student grades and remarks locally before syncing back to the school's central system. To open these files officially, teachers use the dedicated ENM-Notenmanager software.
Technically, an .ENM file is a disguised JetDB (Microsoft Access) database. A major disadvantage of this format is that the official ENM-Notenmanager is strictly a Windows application. This creates frustrating compatibility hurdles for educators using macOS, Linux, or tablets, who cannot natively open or edit their class grades. Furthermore, these files are frequently encrypted with school-provided passwords, completely barring unauthorized viewing or tampering.
Users frequently need to convert .ENM files to universal formats like CSV to analyze data in a spreadsheet, or PDF to print offline grading rosters. While advanced users might rename the extension to MDB to read the underlying database structure, editing raw tables directly bypasses the validation logic of the official software and can corrupt the sync process.
Because this is a closed, proprietary implementation of a JetDB file, standard online converters fail to parse the heavily structured or encrypted tables inside. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ENM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ENM file to TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD, LOCK or PID, you can use ENM-Notenmanager or similar software from the "Grade Management Database" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to ENM, try ENM-Notenmanager or another comparable tool in the "Grade Management Database" category.
The ENM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ENM converter.
