About FZ files
The .FZ file extension primarily serves two distinct communities in electronics: hobbyist makers and professional hardware repair technicians. Most commonly, it represents a project file created by Fritzing, an open-source tool for designing circuit breadboard layouts and PCB views. These files contain XML data describing the circuit's logic and visual layout. While excellent for editing, sharing raw .FZ files is problematic because recipients must have Fritzing installed to view them. For documentation, web publishing, or manufacturing, users typically need to convert these designs into universal formats like PDF for manuals, SVG for scalable web graphics, or Gerber files for professional PCB fabrication.
Alternatively, an .FZ file may be a BoardView schematic used in hardware diagnostics (commonly for repairing ASUS motherboards). These files map physical board components to schematic diagrams and are often proprietary or locked to specific viewers like FlexBV or OpenBoardView. Users frequently struggle to open these on mobile devices or standard computers without dedicated tools. Less frequently, the file might be a compressed FITS image used in astronomy.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted FZZ, RAR, ZIP, FZPZ, TVW, BRD, 7Z, TXT, PDF, BIN, SPV, TSX and RBXM files.
The FZ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FZ converter.
