To convert other file formats to the "Printed Circuit Board" file type, you need software like Autodesk Fusion 360 or a similar tool.
The .BRD extension is a generic identifier for Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout files, used by competing and often incompatible software ecosystems. The most common formats using this extension include Autodesk EAGLE (now part of Fusion 360), Cadence Allegro, and various BoardView diagnostic tools used for hardware repair.
Because .BRD files are native design formats, they suffer from significant interoperability issues. A .BRD created in Cadence Allegro is a complex binary file that cannot be opened by EAGLE or free viewers. Similarly, older EAGLE files are binary, while version 6.0+ files are XML-based, yet neither naturally render in web browsers or standard image viewers. This proprietary lock-in forces users to purchase expensive CAD licenses just to view a schematic or check component placement. For manufacturing, these files must be converted to Gerber (RS-274X) or ODB++. For documentation and easy sharing, converting your .BRD to PDF, SVG, or PNG is essential. For mechanical integration, users often need to export to STEP or DXF to check fitment in 3D enclosures.
