About FPL files

The .fpl extension is most frequently associated with foobar2000, a popular lightweight audio player for Windows. In this context, the file serves as a binary playlist cache. Unlike standard M3U or PLS playlists which are simple text files you can edit with Notepad, foobar2000 FPL files are proprietary and optimized for speed and metadata caching. This creates a significant "lock-in" problem: you cannot open an FPL playlist in VLC Media Player, iTunes, or on mobile devices. To use these playlists elsewhere, you must convert them to an open format like M3U8.

A secondary but critical use of the .fpl extension is in aviation and navigation, specifically by Garmin devices and software like ForeFlight. These are typically XML-based flight plans containing waypoints, routes, and altitude data. Pilots often run into compatibility friction when trying to move these plans to non-Garmin GPS units or visualizing them in Google Earth. Converting these to GPX (GPS Exchange Format) or KML is the standard workflow for interoperability.

Less commonly, you may encounter .fpl files generated by the Floor Plan Creator app (containing zlib compressed libraries) or Future Pinball tables.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FPL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted FLP, FPPL, FPC, JPG, PDF, M3U, PNG, GPX, PFL, ZIP, OBJ, TXT and PLN files.
