Extract text from PFL files

The .PFL extension is shared by several incompatible software ecosystems, creating significant confusion for users. The most common technical use is as a Peak File (waveform cache) generated by Adobe Premiere Pro and CyberLink PowerDirector. These files store only the visual representation of audio waves to speed up editing; they do not contain actual audio and cannot be converted to MP3 or WAV. If your file is small (kilobytes) and accompanies a video file, it is likely a cache file you can safely delete - the software will regenerate it.
However, users frequently encounter .PFL files that are valuable documents. PDF-XChange Editor uses this format to save portable file lists or annotated projects, while PDFill uses it for project files that preserve editable layers before final export. Additionally, Nolo Quicken WillMaker uses .PFL to store estate planning data. These proprietary formats are useless to anyone without the specific originating software installed. To share these files, verify, or archive them, you must convert them to a universal standard like PDF (Portable Document Format) for viewing or DOCX for text editing.
