To convert other file formats to the "Fusion 360 Design Archive" file type, you need software like Autodesk Fusion 360 or a similar tool.
About F3D files
The .F3D file is a 3D design archive used primarily by Autodesk Fusion 360 to store complete 3D models, 2D sketches, and parametric timeline histories. A very small percentage (around 1%) of these files are also generated by Bazis-Mebel CAD software to store furniture component 3D models. Under the hood, the Autodesk format functions as a compressed ZIP container that holds proprietary design data manifests and embedded thumbnail images.
This format carries significant disadvantages. It is highly proprietary and strictly locked into the Autodesk ecosystem. You cannot open an .F3D file natively in a web browser or most third-party CAD applications without relying on cloud-connected software or maintaining a paid subscription. If you lose access to your Autodesk account, retrieving your own raw parametric design history from offline .F3D files becomes a major challenge.
To share 3D models with external manufacturers or engineers, you must convert .F3D files into universal industry formats. The best conversion targets are STEP (for precise solid body CAD sharing), IGES (for older surface modeling systems), and STL or OBJ (for 3D printing and rendering). Be aware that converting to these universal formats strips away the parametric timeline; you preserve the final geometric shape, but lose the editable feature history.
Because the .F3D format relies on Autodesk's proprietary geometry engine to rebuild shapes from timeline instructions, standard online converters consistently fail to process the raw files. Just drag and drop your file onto convert.guru to identify the exact format and safely inspect its internal ZIP structure. Even if full geometric calculation is blocked by proprietary limits, our analysis can often extract embedded previews, XML manifests, and underlying data so you can view the contents and convert supported embedded elements.
Convert.Guru analyzes your F3D file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert F3D file to STL, STEP, DXF, DWG, 3MF, OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND or MA, you can use Autodesk Fusion 360 or similar software from the "3D Design Archive Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to F3D, try Autodesk Fusion 360 or another comparable tool in the "3D Design Archive Storage" category.
The F3D Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our F3D converter.
