About DDD files
The .DDD file extension is predominantly associated with Digital Tachograph Data files, the mandatory European standard for recording commercial vehicle telemetry and driver activity. These binary files act as a secure "black box," storing encrypted logs of driving times, rest periods, speed, and odometer readings from the vehicle's Mass Memory or the driver's Smart Card.
The Problem: Because .DDD files are digitally signed and structured in a complex binary format to prevent tampering, they are not human-readable. You cannot simply open them in Microsoft Excel or Notepad. Fleet managers often struggle because viewing this data requires specialized, often expensive, fleet management software. Additionally, strict EU regulations require these files to be archived for one year, creating a storage management challenge.
The Solution: To make the data usable, you must convert the .DDD file to an open format.
For Compliance & Reports: Convert to PDF. This creates a visual "Driver Activity Graph" suitable for printing and regulatory inspections.
For Analysis: Convert to CSV or Excel (.XLSX). This parses the binary log into rows and columns, allowing you to calculate payroll or analyze efficiency in spreadsheets.
For Integration: Convert to XML or JSON. This preserves the structured hierarchy of the data for import into third-party payroll or logistics systems.
Note: In rare cases, a .DDD file may be a Data Dictionary file for Alpha Anywhere (formerly Alpha Five) or a legacy diagram file for ConceptDraw PRO. If your file does not originate from a vehicle, try opening it with Alpha Anywhere.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DDD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DDD file to PDF, DMS, OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D or STL, you can use TachoReader or similar software from the "Driver Activity Logging" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to DDD, try TachoReader or another comparable tool in the "Driver Activity Logging" category.
The DDD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DDD converter.
