About DDD files
The .ddd file format is primarily used as a Digital Tachograph Data file. It stores mandatory driving records, including driving times, rest periods, and vehicle speed. This data is collected by a commercial vehicle's digital tachograph to enforce European Union transport labor laws.
Fleet managers use specialized software like Stoneridge Tachograph Data Download or TachoReader to manage these files.
Users frequently need to convert these files because the .ddd format is highly restrictive. It is an encrypted, proprietary binary format designed specifically to prevent driver tampering. Standard text editors or web browsers cannot open it. Furthermore, reading the data usually requires an expensive subscription to fleet management software. Normal online converters fail because parsing the binary structure requires specific EU compliance algorithms.
The best conversion targets for .ddd files are PDF (for human-readable compliance reports) or CSV and XLSX (for spreadsheet analysis). However, converting the file strips away the cryptographic digital signature. The resulting document is only useful for personal reading or basic analytics, and cannot be used for official roadside audits.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to open without the original software. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
In rare cases, a .ddd file might instead be a diagram created by Dia Diagram Editor, a 3D CAD drawing from CATIA, or a data dictionary from Alpha Five.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DDD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DDD file to PDF, DMS, OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D or STL, you can use Stoneridge OPTAC or similar software from the "Digital Tachograph Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to DDD, try Stoneridge OPTAC or another comparable tool in the "Digital Tachograph Data Storage" category.
The DDD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DDD converter.
