About DDT files
A .DDT file is primarily used as a proprietary game texture file by the Ensemble Studios RTS engine for real-time strategy games like Age of Empires 3 and Age of Mythology. Secondary applications include data definition files for Football Manager and proprietary data outputs from HPL electricity meters.
Because these files are highly specific to their parent applications, they are notoriously difficult to use outside of them. You cannot open a .DDT texture in standard image viewers or web browsers. They are heavily compressed for rendering efficiency within the game engine, making them inaccessible to modders or designers without extraction tools. Similarly, the database variants lock your data inside specialized software, requiring export before analysis.
To overcome these limitations, conversion is essential. For game textures, convert .DDT to DDS for modding, or PNG or WebP for web sharing and standard viewing. For the database and electricity meter variants, converting to CSV or XML is recommended to restore data accessibility. Drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.

The DDT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DDT converter.
