About ASICE files
The .ASICE (Associated Signature Container Extended) file is a digitally signed document container standardized by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). It is primarily used within the European Union under the eIDAS regulation to bundle electronic documents with legally binding digital signatures. At its core, an .ASICE file is simply a standard ZIP archive containing the original files and a META-INF folder storing the XML signatures.
These files are typically created and opened using specialized software like the DigiDoc4 Client provided by the Estonian government. The main disadvantage of the .ASICE format is its lack of native support. Users cannot open these files on standard mobile devices, web browsers, or default OS document viewers without installing dedicated, often regional, software. This is a common problem when simply trying to read a contract or application.
Users usually need to convert or extract .ASICE files to access the enclosed PDF or DOCX documents. When extracting these files, it is crucial to note that the digital signature is tied to the container itself; the extracted files will lose their cryptographic proof of integrity and signer identity.
Because .ASICE is a secure, structured archive rather than a flat document, standard online document converters often fail to process it. They cannot parse the internal signature manifests.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ASICE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ASICE file to PDF, P7S, EDOC, ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, LZMA or CAB, you can use DigiDoc4 Client or similar software from the "Digitally signed document container" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert XXE, 7Z, Z, PAK, LHA, DEB, UUE, TAR, LZH, ZIP, PKG or RAR files to ASICE, try DigiDoc4 Client or another comparable tool in the "Digitally signed document container" category.
The ASICE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ASICE converter.
