About ASICE files

An .ASICE (Associated Signature Container - Extended) file is a secure data container used to bundle documents alongside their cryptographic digital signatures. Based on the ETSI ASiC-E standard, these files are heavily utilized in the European Union (especially Estonia) for creating legally binding electronic signatures that comply with the eIDAS regulation.

To properly read, validate, and sign these files, users typically rely on specialized e-ID software such as the DigiDoc4 Client. The internal structure of the container relies on XML files located in a META-INF folder to map the digital certificates to the actual payloads.

The main disadvantage of the .ASICE format is its rigid, specialized nature. Standard desktop programs and web browsers cannot open it. If you receive an .ASICE file and do not have national ID software installed, the file acts as a closed, proprietary-feeling black box. Furthermore, modifying the file in any way instantly breaks the cryptographic seal, rendering the signatures invalid.

Most users looking to convert an .ASICE file actually just want to extract the enclosed payload to standard formats like PDF or DOCX. Because it relies on specific cryptographic hashing, "converting" the container inherently means discarding the verifiable signature to access the raw document inside.

This file format is difficult to open or convert because the digital signatures are inextricably tied to the exact byte-structure of the enclosed data. Usually, only the original e-ID software can properly read and validate the certificates. However, because an .ASICE file is essentially a standard ZIP archive under the hood, standard tools can still analyze its contents. Just drag and drop your file to convert.guru to identify the format, view it, and extract or convert the internal documents when possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ASICE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PDF, EDOC, ASICS, ADOC, ZIP, BDOC, ASIC, DOCX, CDOC, XML, ASI, ASICE 2 and HYP files.

The ASICE Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ASICE converter.
