About CR3 files

The .CR3 file format is the modern raw image standard for Canon digital cameras, including the EOS R and M series. Unlike its predecessor (B.CR2), the .CR3 format utilizes the ISO Base Media File Format (ISOBMFF) - the same container structure found in MP4 videos - to store unprocessed sensor data and complex metadata. While this allows for features like 'C-RAW' (compact raw) which significantly reduces file size, these files are strictly proprietary. You cannot open them in standard web browsers, most default image viewers, or older versions of photo editors like Adobe Photoshop. Sharing raw photos directly is impractical due to their massive size and lack of compatibility. To use these images on websites, social media, or in general documents, you must convert them. For web display and quick sharing, convert .CR3 to JPG or WebP. For high-fidelity editing or printing without proprietary lock-in, convert to TIFF. For long-term archiving, the DNG format is the industry standard.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CR3 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted HIF, BIN, CR5, RC3, CR, CRS, CM3, CP3, SR3, CER, OC3, CRE and CRM files.
