About OC3 files

The .oc3 file is an openCanvas 3 Event File developed by Portalgraphics. It is used by the digital painting software openCanvas to record the entire drawing process. Instead of saving a static image, the file stores every brushstroke, color change, and layer adjustment as sequential event data, allowing users to replay the creation of the artwork stroke by stroke. The primary disadvantage of the .oc3 format is that it is highly proprietary and fundamentally locked to an outdated version of the software. Because it does not contain standard raster pixel data, you cannot open it in Adobe Photoshop, web browsers, or standard image viewers. Furthermore, playing back the file requires the exact brushes and settings present in the original engine. To share the final artwork, users must convert the file to standard raster formats like PNG or JPG. If the goal is to share the drawing process, recording the playback into a video format like MP4 is necessary. Standard online image converters fail completely when processing .oc3 files because they lack the proprietary rendering engine needed to execute the drawing commands. Only the original software can properly read or export the full data.
