About CP3 files
The .CP3 file is a proprietary 3D shape file created by MicroProse for their 2000 PC racing simulator, Grand Prix 3. It stores the geometric data, vertices, and coordinates used to render the driver's cockpit view during gameplay. A major disadvantage of the .CP3 format is its extreme obsolescence. It is a highly specific, closed binary format tied to a decades-old game engine. Standard 3D software like Blender or Autodesk Maya cannot open .CP3 files natively, and the files lack support for modern 3D features like PBR materials, rigging, or high-resolution textures. Because this is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters will fail to process it. Modders typically need to convert .CP3 into common 3D formats like OBJ or STL to edit the cockpit in modern tools, which traditionally required hunting down legacy, community-built utilities like GP3Edit that struggle to run on modern operating systems. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CP3 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CP3 file to TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD, LOCK or PID, you can use Grand Prix 3 or similar software from the "Game Cockpit 3D Model" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The CP3 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CP3 converter.
