About RC3 files

The .RC3 file extension is primarily used as a system settings and memory backup file for the Boss RC-300 Loop Station. Secondarily, it is utilized as a genealogy project database file (often relying on the JetDB engine) by legacy software like The Master Genealogist or Reunion, and as a proprietary call recording file by the GSAPRO Call Recording System.

To manage loop backups, users typically rely on direct USB connections to the hardware or use Boss Tone Studio. Genealogy variants require legacy desktop tools like Reunion to access the family tree data.

Users encounter .RC3 files when backing up expensive hardware, recovering legacy family trees, or retrieving corporate call logs. The major disadvantage is that .RC3 acts as a strict, proprietary container. You cannot directly read loop parameters in a standard text editor, genealogy variants are locked behind abandoned desktop software, and call recordings will refuse to play in standard media players like VLC.

Converting the audio variants to WAV or MP3 is essential for standard playback and distribution. Genealogy databases must be exported to GED (GEDCOM) to migrate your family history to modern, web-based platforms.

This format is notoriously difficult to process because it is a closed, proprietary file. Often, only the original hardware or legacy software can correctly parse or export the data. Standard online converters fail because they lack the specific decoders for Boss hardware logic or legacy JetDB structures. However, you can use convert.guru as a pragmatic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view its internal hexadecimal or text data, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects standard embedded audio or readable text strings, partial data extraction may still be viable.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RC3 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CR3, RC2 and JPG files.

The RC3 Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RC3 converter.
