About CRE files
A .cre file typically functions as an Infinity Engine Creature file used in classic role-playing games developed by BioWare, such as Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale. It stores essential character, NPC, and monster data, including statistics, inventory, and spell lists. Alternatively, a .cre file can be a financial database created by Crésus Comptabilité accounting software, a custom Windows update package generated by NTLite, or even a legacy Symbian OS crash report.
The main disadvantage of .cre files is their highly fragmented and proprietary nature. Game-related .cre files are compiled as binary data, meaning you cannot read them with standard text editors without seeing garbled characters. You must rely on community-built modding tools like NearInfinity to parse them. Crésus accounting files lock your financial history behind a paid software ecosystem, making data portability difficult. Meanwhile, NTLite update files are simply disguised 7Z archives that can confuse standard extraction tools.
To overcome these limitations, you should convert the file based on your goals. For game modding, convert .cre to JSON or TXT to easily read character statistics. For Crésus financial records, exporting to CSV is crucial for analyzing data in Microsoft Excel or sharing it with your accountant. If dealing with an NTLite package, convert it to a standard ZIP for easy extraction.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CRE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The CRE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CRE converter.
