Alternatively, it serves as a CryEngine game data archive used by Crytek, a Compact Font Format container developed by Adobe, or a Citation File Format metadata file for software citations in academia. Other fringe uses include Portrait Displays CalMAN display calibration data and IEEE C37.111 COMTRADE power system transient data.
Because .CFF files lack a single standardized structure, they are notoriously difficult to open without the precise source software. Opening an ECU flash file without specialized tuning software results in scrambled binary data.
