The .ccf extension serves multiple disparate purposes, creating significant confusion for users. Its most prominent legacy use is the Component Configuration File created by Philips for their discontinued Pronto universal remote controls (specifically the TSU1000/2000 series). These files store infrared (IR) hex codes, button layouts, and monochrome bitmap graphics. Enthusiasts often need to convert these to Text or Hex formats to migrate reliable IR codes into modern home automation systems like Home Assistant or Logitech Harmony, as the original ProntoEdit software is obsolete and struggles to run on modern Windows.
Another common variation is the CryptLoad Container File. Used by the download manager CryptLoad, these files conceal multiple download links to protect them from automated takedowns. Since CryptLoad is largely defunct, users often get stuck with a locked .ccf and no way to retrieve the underlying URLs. Converting these to Text reveals the hidden links. Additionally, in Italy, .ccf files are utilized by the Agenzia delle Entrate (Revenue Agency) for tax certifications and returns. These act as digital envelopes for sensitive data and typically require the agency's specific Desktop Telematico software to view or print as PDF.
