About FF files

The .FF file extension primarily identifies the Fast File format, a high-performance container system engineered by Infinity Ward and Treyarch for the Call of Duty franchise. These files serve as the backbone of the game's data management, aggregating thousands of assets - including compiled scripts, audio streams, texture maps, and 3D models - into a single, uncompressed binary blob designed for direct memory mapping.

Because .FF files are highly optimized for specific engine versions (e.g., Call of Duty 4 vs. Black Ops III), they act as proprietary "black boxes." Users cannot open them with standard archivers like WinRAR or 7-Zip, and attempting to edit them directly often triggers "Fastfile mismatch" or "Zone not found" errors, rendering the game unplayable. This lack of accessibility is a major friction point for modders and content creators. To utilize the data inside, users typically need to extract or dump the contents. Common conversion targets include WAV or MP3 for extracted audio, DDS or PNG for textures, and OBJ for 3D geometry.

A significantly smaller subset of .FF files may be Farbfeld images, a lossless raster format designed for simplicity and ease of parsing. Since web browsers do not support Farbfeld natively, these should be converted to PNG or WebP for viewing and sharing.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted FFDATA, FFM, BIK, IWI, JPG, DOCX, TXT, CDW, ZIP, DM_2, DM_3, DM_4 and CC files.

The FF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FF converter.
