About BOX files
The .box file extension is a highly fragmented format used by several completely unrelated software platforms. The most common use cases include HashiCorp Vagrant virtual machine packages, flight telemetry logs for Fimi drones, and installation bootstrapper packages for Microsoft SQL Server. It is also used as an email mailbox container in clients like Foxmail, and as an encrypted container by Security BOX software. The primary disadvantage of the .box format is its extreme ambiguity. A drone flight log is useless to a developer trying to spin up a server environment, and neither can be natively opened by a standard operating system without the exact matching software. Vagrant boxes are simply compressed GZIP or TAR archives, but their obscure extension confuses standard unzipping tools. Fimi drone logs are proprietary and require specific parsers to extract readable telemetry. Mailbox containers lock your communication history behind outdated or specialized clients. To overcome these strict software dependencies, conversion or extraction is usually necessary. Extract Vagrant packages into standard TAR or GZ files for archiving.
