About MYO files
The .MYO file is the proprietary company data file used by legacy versions of MYOB AccountRight (v19 and earlier) and AccountEdge. It functions as a self-contained database holding a business's entire financial history, including the general ledger, payroll, inventory, and customer records.
Users often encounter friction with .MYO files due to strict version locking; a file created in v18 cannot be opened in v17, and opening it in v19 forces a one-way upgrade that makes the file incompatible with previous versions. Furthermore, the underlying C-Tree database engine is 32-bit, meaning these files cannot be opened natively on macOS Catalina (10.15) or later without specialized virtualization. Additionally, .MYO files are notoriously unstable if accessed over network drives or cloud sync services (like Dropbox), often leading to corruption.
For modern use, the best workflow is to convert the internal data tables to XLSX (Excel) or CSV for financial analysis and auditing. For upgrading to the cloud, the file must be migrated to the newer .MYOX format used by modern MYOB Business software. For long-term archiving of tax records, generating paginated PDF reports is the standard.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MYO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MYO file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use MYOB AccountRight or similar software from the "Accounting Company Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The MYO Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MYO converter.
