About ADOC files

The .adoc file extension represents two entirely different formats. In 95% of cases, it is a Lithuanian ADOC digitally signed document container based on the ZIP standard. These files are used by businesses and government agencies in Lithuania to legally sign and exchange official documents. In other cases, it is an AsciiDoc text document, a lightweight markup language used for software documentation.

To open a Lithuanian ADOC file legally, you must use regional portals like Signa Web. For AsciiDoc files, developers typically use Asciidoctor or standard text editors. You can read more about the text format on Wikipedia's AsciiDoc page.

Users frequently need to convert .adoc files because the Lithuanian signature format is highly restrictive. It is proprietary to a specific geographic region, requires specialized web plugins or software to verify, and is completely unsupported by standard operating systems or mobile devices. The core disadvantage is that users outside Lithuania cannot easily read the enclosed contracts or agreements. AsciiDoc files, while plain text, lack universal visual formatting and require rendering engines to display properly.

The best conversion targets for a Lithuanian ADOC file are standard ZIP or PDF. Converting it allows you to extract the embedded PDF or DOCX files inside, though the legal digital signature verification will be completely lost. For AsciiDoc, converting to HTML or PDF is recommended for cross-platform sharing.

This format is notoriously difficult to process because the ADOC signature container is wrapped in specialized cryptographic metadata. Standard online converters fail to process it because they do not understand the localized encryption schema. Furthermore, often only the original software can properly read or export the validated data. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - like a standard ZIP archive containing your documents - viewing or conversion may still be possible. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible.
