About HTM files

.HTM files are plain text documents containing HyperText Markup Language markup. They are structurally identical to HTML files. They are natively opened by modern web browsers like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, and can be edited in text editors like Notepad++. They are also exported by legacy software like Microsoft Word. While universal for the web, .HTM files are terrible for standalone document sharing. When you send an .HTM file, it lacks the linked external CSS, images, and JavaScript needed to display correctly. It looks completely broken if opened offline without its associated asset folder. Furthermore, email clients frequently flag .HTM attachments as security risks due to their widespread use in phishing campaigns.
