About ADO files

The .ADO file extension is primarily associated with two completely different formats: a Lithuanian ADOC signed electronic document container and a Stata statistical program file. The ADOC format is an official standard used by Lithuanian government agencies and businesses to store digitally signed documents. It is essentially a ZIP archive containing the actual documents (often PDF or DOCX files) along with XML signature metadata. You can view these using the official Lithuanian eParašas portal. Alternatively, in the data science world, .ADO stands for 'Automatic DO-file' in Stata. These are plain text scripts containing user-written macros and programs used for statistical analysis. A third, less common use is as a Duotone Options file for Adobe Photoshop, storing specific ink settings for print. Each of these formats comes with distinct disadvantages. ADOC files are proprietary to Lithuanian e-signature standards and cannot be opened natively by standard operating systems or web browsers. Stata scripts require expensive proprietary software to execute, and Photoshop settings files are useless outside of the Adobe ecosystem. Because the same extension is used for a compressed archive, a plain text script, and a proprietary settings file, standard online converters usually fail to process .ADO files correctly. To work around these limits, you must convert or extract the contents. For ADOC files, the best target format is a standard ZIP archive, which allows you to extract the internal PDF or DOCX documents. For Stata files, converting to TXT or DO makes the code readable on any device. This file format is difficult to open or convert because standard software cannot guess which internal structure the file uses. Drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported. convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ADO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ADOC, PDF, GRD, AST and ASL files.

The ADO Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ADO converter.
