About ADO files

The .ADO file extension usually indicates one of two distinct formats, creating immediate confusion for users trying to open them. most commonly, it is an Automatic Do-file used by Stata, a powerful statistical software suite. These files contain user-defined programs and macros meant to automate complex data analysis tasks. The primary difficulty here is accessibility: while the files are technically plain text, they are associated with expensive, proprietary software ($$$), making them unreadable to standard system viewers. To review the code without a license, the best workflow is converting the file to TXT (for editing in Notepad++) or PDF (for sharing code documentation).

Alternatively, in specific European contexts, the file may be a Lithuanian Signed Document (associated with the ADOC format). These are actually ZIP containers holding XML metadata and signed content. Users often struggle to open these without government-issued software or specific web portals. A practical workaround is to rename the extension to ZIP to extract the contents, or use a converter to flatten the signed document into a standard PDF for archiving. Lastly, older designers may encounter .ADO files as Duotone Options for Adobe Photoshop, storing ink transfer curves. These are proprietary binary settings and cannot be meaningfully converted to image formats, only loaded back into Photoshop.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ADO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ADOC, PDF, GRD, AST and ASL files.
