About ZDL files
A .ZDL file is a label design project file used primarily by Avery DesignPro. It stores text, barcode layouts, and imported images to print physical labels, business cards, and dividers. The main disadvantage of this format is its proprietary, closed nature. Avery Dennison discontinued the offline DesignPro software years ago. Because it relies on outdated container architectures, modern software and web browsers cannot natively open it. Users are locked into an obsolete ecosystem.
Users typically need to convert .ZDL files to PDF, PNG, or JPG to ensure their print layouts remain intact and shareable. Standard online converters fail to process .ZDL files because the internal layout algorithms are undocumented. This file format is extremely difficult to open or convert without the original software. Often only the original Avery DesignPro software can properly read or export the exact design data. While perfect layout translation is rarely possible without the original software, our engine can inspect the file. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - like the internal ZIP archive or Microsoft Compound streams - viewing or extracting embedded images and text may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ZDL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ZDL file to AVERY, INDD, QXP, PUB, PMD, PM6, PM7, PM8, PM9, PM10, PM11 or OMP, you can use Avery DesignPro or similar software from the "Label Design Project Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MDI, PUB, PDP, PM4, P65, COMIC, WEBTEMPLATE, PMD, SPUB, INDD, PM5 or QXP files to ZDL, try Avery DesignPro or another comparable tool in the "Label Design Project Storage" category.
The ZDL Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ZDL converter.
