About LBL files

The .LBL file is a template document used to create, save, and print adhesive labels, barcodes, and product tags. These files store layout coordinates, text formatting, barcode symbologies, and sometimes external database connection strings.

These templates are generated by specialized thermal printer software. The dominant ecosystem belongs to NiceLabel, but files with the .LBL extension are also frequently created by ZebraDesigner, Dymo, Printec, and even legacy dBASE systems. They are highly specialized files meant solely for printing hardware.

The main disadvantage of .LBL files is severe vendor lock-in. A .LBL file created in NiceLabel usually cannot be opened in ZebraDesigner or BarTender, even though they share the exact same extension. They require expensive, proprietary software to view, making it nearly impossible to share a design proof with a client or colleague who lacks that specific program. Furthermore, they are useless on mobile devices and completely unsupported by web browsers.

To fix this, you need to convert the file. For universal printing, sharing, and archiving, convert to PDF. If you need to embed a preview on a website or send a quick visual proof via email, convert it to PNG or JPG. Note that converting to a standard document format will freeze dynamic data fields (like serialized barcodes) into static images.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LBL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted NLBL, IBL, PDF, LVD, LABEL, JPG, BTW, PNG, LBX, ZPL, LBLX, PRV and LBV files.

The LBL Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LBL converter.
