About XBS files
The .xbs file extension is most commonly associated with XnView image processing scripts. These are XML-based recipe files used by XnView MP and XnConvert to automate batch actions like resizing, watermarking, or format conversion. A frequent issue for users is the misconception that the .xbs file contains the images themselves; in reality, it only contains the instructions for processing them. Because these files are effectively text-based scripts, they cannot be directly "converted" into visual image formats like JPG or PNG without running the script against the original source images in the XnView software. Users holding these files often need to open them to view the processing parameters or execute them to generate the desired output files. A secondary, less common use for this extension is for XBLite source code files, which contain programming logic written in a dialect of the BASIC language. For these files, the primary goal is often compiling them into an EXE or viewing the raw code in a text editor.

The XBS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XBS converter.
