About TG files
The .TG file format is primarily used for guitar tablature documents created by TuxGuitar, an open-source multitrack tablature editor. These files store musical notation, guitar tabs, tempo, and track data. A secondary, rare use for the .TG extension is a Gzip Compressed Tar Archive. The main disadvantage of the .TG format is its strict dependency on TuxGuitar. It is a highly specialized file that cannot be opened by standard text editors, web browsers, or media players. If you send a .TG file to someone without the software, they cannot view the sheet music or hear the audio. To solve this, you must convert the file. Exporting to .PDF is the best choice for sharing printable sheet music. Exporting to .MIDI or .WAV is required for audio playback. You can also export to .GP5 to collaborate with Guitar Pro users. Note that complex fingering nuances might be lost when exporting to basic .MIDI. Because .TG is a specialized data format, standard online converters fail to process it. They lack the specific tablature rendering engine required to parse the musical notation. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data.
