About GG files
A .gg file is most commonly a Google Desktop Gadget, a KiriKiri game modification package, or a Sega Game Gear ROM image. These files represent very different use cases: widgets for an obsolete desktop platform, modified game assets using the KAG engine, or dumped game cartridges for retro emulation. The primary disadvantage of the .GG format is obsolescence and lack of native support. Google Desktop was discontinued in 2011, making gadget files unusable as standalone applications. In reality, these are simply renamed ZIP or 7Z archives containing raw HTML, XML, Javascript, and image assets. Game gear ROMs are proprietary binary files that cannot run without specialized emulators. To access the source code or media assets inside a Gadget or Game Mod, your best conversion target is a standard archive format like ZIP or 7Z. This allows easy extraction using software like 7-Zip. For archiving retro games, converting between ROM formats is rarely viable, but managing them in compressed archives saves space.
