Convert SKB to another file type
To convert your SKB file to another format, you need SketchUp or other 3D software.
Convert a file to SKB
To convert other file formats to the "3D Model Backup" file type, you need software like SketchUp or a similar tool.
About SKB files
A .SKB file is an automatic backup created by Trimble SketchUp, the industry-standard 3D modeling software for architecture and design. These files serve as a critical failsafe, containing an exact snapshot of your 3D model geometry, textures, and component definitions at the moment of the last autosave. While invaluable for data recovery, .SKB files introduce friction because they are not natively recognized as openable documents by the operating system or third-party 3D tools like Blender or AutoCAD. Users often find themselves unable to double-click these files to launch SketchUp, leading to confusion when the primary SKP file is corrupted or lost. To make this data usable, the file usually requires a format change. For immediate editing, the most direct solution is renaming the extension to SKP. However, for broader use cases such as 3D printing or rendering in other engines, you should convert the file to STL (for printing), OBJ (for universal geometry), or DWG (for CAD workflows).
Convert.Guru analyzes your SKB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SKB file to SKP, PDF, DWG, STL, OBJ, JPG, FBX, BAK, BACKUP, OLD, TMP or TEMP, you can use SketchUp or similar software from the "SketchUp Model Backup" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SNAPSHOT, OLD, IMG, RESTORE, ISO, COPY, VMDK, TMP, VHD, BAK, ARCHIVE or BACKUP files to SKB, try SketchUp or another comparable tool in the "SketchUp Model Backup" category.
The SKB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SKB converter.
