About SFV files
A .sfv file (Simple File Verification) acts as a digital receipt for file transfers, storing CRC32 checksums to validate that downloaded data remains identical to the source. These files are frequently distributed alongside multi-part archives (like RAR or ZIP sets) or large media downloads to detect corruption or missing parts.
A primary issue is that users often mistake the .sfv file for the actual content (e.g., a video or game installer) and attempt to play it, only to find it cannot be opened by media players. Additionally, while the format is technically plain text, specialized tools like QuickSFV or QuickPar are required to perform the actual verification process automatically. Users typically need to convert .sfv files to readable formats like TXT to inspect the list of filenames manually, or to CSV and XLSX to manage large inventories of file hashes. For documentation purposes, converting the verification log to PDF creates a shareable integrity report.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SFV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SFV file to SRT, TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD or LOCK, you can use QuickSFV or similar software from the "File Integrity Verification" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to SFV, try QuickSFV or another comparable tool in the "File Integrity Verification" category.
The SFV Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SFV converter.
