About SEP files

A .sep file typically functions as an Electrical Project Schematic created by IGE+XAO SEE Electrical or sPlan. These files store intricate wiring diagrams, component lists, and circuit layouts using a proprietary JetDB database structure. Alternatively, particularly in Asia, a .sep file acts as a ShuSheng Electronic Document, utilizing SUREXML to enforce strict digital rights management (DRM) for scholarly and corporate publishing.

The main disadvantage of the .sep format is its extreme fragmentation and closed-ecosystem design. Because over ten completely unrelated applications - ranging from CAD software and secure document readers to SynthEdit audio plugins and Wolters Kluwer judicial archives - use the exact same extension, standard operating systems usually fail to open them. Users are routinely frustrated by DRM restrictions on ShuSheng files or the expensive subscription walls required to view electrical CAD schematics.

When dealing with schematic data, the ideal conversion targets are PDF for universal sharing or DWG and DXF for further editing in alternative CAD software. For secure documents, users generally want to convert to standard PDF, though DRM often strips layout formatting or blocks extraction entirely.

This format is notoriously difficult to open or convert online because standard converters lack the proprietary rendering engines needed for both JetDB schematics and encrypted SUREXML. Our system will analyze the file headers to determine if it is an embedded XML CAD project, a ZIP-compressed legal proceeding, or an executable plugin. If we detect a supported underlying structure, we can help you extract the contents, view the text, or convert the accessible data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SEP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted STEP, PDF, STP, DOCX, SEB, JPG, EPS, LDB, EASM, ZIP, IDML, PNG and EXE files.

FAQ

If you want to convert SEP file to PDF, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT or DB, you can use SEE Electrical or similar software from the "Electrical Schematic & Secure Document" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to SEP, try SEE Electrical or another comparable tool in the "Electrical Schematic & Secure Document" category.

The SEP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SEP converter.
