To convert other file formats to the "ACIS 3D Assembly File" file type, you need software like AutoCAD or a similar tool.

About ASAT files

The .asat file is an Assemble SAT 3D Model File that stores 3D assembly data based on the ACIS solid modeling kernel. Mechanical engineers and industrial designers use it to save complex, multi-part 3D structures.

Developed originally by Spatial Corp (now a subsidiary of Dassault Systèmes), the ACIS kernel is a core component of many CAD systems. The .asat format is typically opened using AutoCAD or Autodesk Inventor. You can read more about the underlying ACIS technology on Wikipedia.

Users frequently need to convert this file because the .asat format is an obscure assembly variation of the standard sat file. It is proprietary, entirely unsupported by web browsers, and typically requires a high-cost CAD subscription to open. Furthermore, attempting to transfer ACIS-based models into Parasolid-based CAD software often results in broken assemblies, missing faces, or untrimmed surfaces.

We recommend converting .asat files to STEP or IGES for maximum compatibility across different CAD platforms. If your goal is 3D printing or rendering, convert to STL or OBJ. Be aware that exporting a parametric solid assembly to a mesh format like STL will strip the solid model history and mathematical curvature data.

This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because it contains complex, hierarchical 3D assembly data and references. Often, only the original CAD software can properly read or export the 3D data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded 3D format, viewing or conversion to common CAD formats may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ASAT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

FAQ

If you want to convert ASAT file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use AutoCAD or similar software from the "3D Assembly Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to ASAT, try AutoCAD or another comparable tool in the "3D Assembly Data Storage" category.

The ASAT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ASAT converter.
