Convert RPTDESIGN to another file type
To convert RPTDESIGN reports to another format, you need Eclipse BIRT or other Developer software.
Convert a file to RPTDESIGN
To convert other file formats to the "Report Design Template" file type, you need software like Eclipse BIRT or a similar tool.
About RPTDESIGN files
The .rptdesign file is an XML-based template created by Eclipse BIRT (Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools). It stores report layouts, data source connections, and visualization parameters used in Java/EE applications. Developers use the BIRT Report Designer, built on the Eclipse IDE, to author these blueprints.
Users often need to convert this file because they expect a readable document, but .rptdesign only contains source code, not the actual report data. The file itself is useless for end-users without the live database connection and the BIRT rendering engine. You cannot easily read it in standard web browsers, and it causes confusion when sent via email instead of the final exported report.
The best conversion targets are XML or TXT to inspect the source code, or rendering the template into PDF, HTML, or XLSX using the BIRT runtime.
Because this is a specialized template file requiring an external database to populate its charts and tables, standard online converters fail to process it into a finished PDF. Simply put, standard converters do not have access to your private database and the proprietary Java runtime environment.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RPTDESIGN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert RPTDESIGN file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Eclipse BIRT or similar software from the "Report Template Definition" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to RPTDESIGN, try Eclipse BIRT or another comparable tool in the "Report Template Definition" category.
The RPTDESIGN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RPTDESIGN converter.
