To convert other file formats to the "UI/UX Prototype Project" file type, you need software like Axure RP or a similar tool.
The .rp file format is primarily an Axure RP project file containing interactive wireframes, UI layouts, and prototype specifications. Under the hood, modern .RP files are actually ZIP compressed archives that store proprietary XML data, JavaScript, and embedded image assets.
Working with raw .RP files presents major disadvantages for non-designers. The format is heavily proprietary, requires a paid Axure RP subscription to natively edit, and cannot be directly opened by standard web browsers. Sharing these files often leads to frustration because clients and developers lack the necessary software to view the interactive elements.
To share these designs, the optimal conversion targets are HTML packages for full interactive browser viewing, or PDF and PNG formats for static, printable documentation. Be aware that converting to PDF or PNG permanently strips away the interactive logic, animations, and clickable states.
Because the format is proprietary and requires the Axure engine to render UI widgets, third-party conversion is extremely difficult. However, just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Since most .RP files are structured as ZIP archives, convert.guru can inspect the file, extract the internal structure, and often salvage embedded raw image files (PNG, JPG) or underlying XML data even if full interactive conversion is unsupported.
