Alternatively, the .MPKG format is used by MikroElektronika as a library package for compilers like mikroC PRO for ARM, or by Apple as a macOS installer meta-package containing multiple nested PKG installation files.
The major disadvantage of the .mpkg format is its proprietary, restricted nature. You cannot open a wallpaper .mpkg file directly in a standard media player or web browser, and macOS .mpkg installers cannot execute on Windows. These files require the original paid software or a specific compiler to function.
