About PSU files
The .psu file format is primarily used as a PlayStation 2 save file. It is created when users back up physical PS2 memory cards to a PC using hardware like the EMS PS2 Memory Adapter or homebrew software like uLaunchELF. A secondary use is for PSU Designer documents, which are power supply circuit designs created with software by Duncan Amplification.
To manage or convert PS2 saves, users rely on PS2 Save Builder or the PCSX2 emulator. The main disadvantage of the .psu format is its proprietary nature. The files hold raw console data that cannot be read by modern operating systems or standard software. Furthermore, these saves are strictly locked to specific game title IDs and regional codes (NTSC vs. PAL).
Users usually need to convert .psu files to other console save formats like MAX (Action Replay), CBS (CodeBreaker), or raw memory card images (PS2) to use them on different devices, cheat engines, or emulators.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because it contains compiled binary data with game-specific checksums. Standard online converters fail to process it because only specialized console software can properly read or export the data.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PSU file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PSU file to PS2, PPT, PPM, PSV, DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM or STEP, you can use PS2 Save Builder or similar software from the "Console Game Save Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to PSU, try PS2 Save Builder or another comparable tool in the "Console Game Save Data" category.
The PSU Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PSU converter.
