The .SSK file format is primarily used as a custom interface skin archive for either Windows Media Player or Zhorn Software Stickies. These files contain the visual instructions, graphics, and layout parameters required to completely change the appearance of the host software interface. A rare secondary use is the legacy SmartSketch 95 Document format originally associated with Adobe.
The main disadvantage of .SSK files is that they are highly application-specific and entirely useless outside their designated software ecosystem. You cannot directly open an .SSK file in a web browser, standard document reader, or image editor. Because many of these files - especially Stickies skins - are actually disguised ZIP archives, they require extraction rather than traditional conversion. Users typically need to unpack them to access the underlying PNG, BMP, or XML configuration files to modify a theme or recover lost graphical assets.
