About PRINT files

The .print file extension is a highly ambiguous format used by multiple unrelated systems. Most commonly, it represents either a printable grant proposal generated by the National Science Foundation (NSF) FastLane system, or a 3D printing project file used by Stratasys GrabCAD Print and PrusaSlicer. It is also occasionally used for Point of Sale (POS) restaurant receipts or large-format printer job files by Canon Océ printers.

The main disadvantage of the .print format is its lack of standardization. It is not a single, recognizable file type. NSF proposal files are typically standard PDF files disguised with a modified extension. 3D printing project files are usually renamed ZIP archives that contain 3D models (such as STL or OBJ), slicing settings, and machine-specific GCODE. Conversely, POS and large-format printer job files contain raw, machine-specific binary instructions that are completely unreadable without the exact hardware.

Standard online converters fail to process .print files because they rely solely on the generic file extension rather than inspecting the internal byte structure. Because this format frequently masks underlying standard data, users often struggle to open them on standard mobile and desktop operating systems without expensive software or trial-and-error renaming. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format like PDF or a ZIP archive, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PRINT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted MAKERBOT, PDF, PRN, JPG, PNG, DOCX, PATH, 21, V1, SIGNATURE and TEXT files.

The PRINT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PRINT converter.
