The .PND file extension generally represents one of two proprietary container formats: an Indonesian Government payroll data archive (used by the Aplikasi Gaji PNS Pusat system) or a Pandora application package designed for the OpenPandora handheld Linux gaming console.
In the context of Indonesian civil service, the .PND file is actually a standard ZIP archive masquerading under a different extension to store government payroll data. On the other hand, the OpenPandora package is a highly specialized, self-contained executable container. It typically appends a SquashFS or ISO filesystem image directly to a Linux executable header, containing software, game assets, and XML metadata.
The main disadvantage of these formats is their extreme hardware and software lock-in. Indonesian payroll files are tied to outdated desktop software, frustrating users who just need to read the underlying database or spreadsheet files. Similarly, Pandora application packages are useless on standard Windows or macOS environments because they require an ARM-based Linux system to run.
