About CST files
The .CST file extension primarily represents two distinct and highly specific formats: a Roland CutStudio design document or a legacy Adobe Director cast file. In the physical production realm, CutStudio files store vector paths, text, and dimensions specifically formatted for Roland vinyl cutting machines. In the legacy multimedia realm, Director cast files act as localized containers that store assets like audio, bitmap images, and Lingo scripts used in interactive CD-ROMs.
To interact with vinyl cutting designs, you must use Roland CutStudio. Opening multimedia cast files requires Adobe Director, a platform officially discontinued in 2017. Other software ecosystems also utilize the .CST extension, including Dassault Systèmes CST Studio Suite for electromagnetic simulation projects, and the Call of Duty series for saving game configuration settings.
The core disadvantage of the .CST format is its rigid, proprietary nature. CutStudio files are vendor-locked; you cannot natively import them into standard vector applications like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape without prior conversion. Furthermore, Adobe Director cast files are effectively obsolete and unsupported by modern operating systems, turning asset recovery into a frustrating reverse-engineering task.
For vector editing and sharing, convert your CutStudio .CST files to universally supported formats like SVG or EPS. If you simply need to view the cut paths, convert to PDF. To recover media from Adobe Director cast files, extraction to raw PNG or WAV is required.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CST file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CST file to IST, EST, UTC, PST, CP, GMT, MST, INDD, QXP, PUB, PMD or PM6, you can use Roland CutStudio or similar software from the "Vector Graphic or Multimedia Container" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The CST Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CST converter.
