About NSZ files
A .NSZ file is primarily a compressed Nintendo Switch game package, designed to reduce the storage footprint of standard NSP (Nintendo Submission Package) files. By utilizing the zstandard compression algorithm, .NSZ files can shrink game sizes by 40-80% without removing content, making them ideal for users with limited SD card space. However, this efficiency comes with compatibility trade-offs. Not all installers or older builds of emulators like Yuzu and Ryujinx natively support the compressed format, often requiring users to decompress them back to NSP for successful loading. Additionally, handling these files usually requires specific decryption keys (prod.keys) legally dumped from a console. For archival or emulation, the best practice is to convert .NSZ files back to NSP or XCI to ensure broad compatibility. In rare scientific contexts, a .NSZ file may also contain particle size data from Malvern Panalytical Zetasizer software, which should be converted to CSV or XLS for analysis.
Convert.Guru analyzes your NSZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The NSZ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NSZ converter.
