About NFT files

The .nft extension is a technical chameleon, most frequently associated with the Gamebryo engine as a proprietary asset or texture file. Unlike modern open formats, these files are strictly optimized for runtime efficiency within older gaming engines (famous for powering titles like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion), making them unreadable to standard image viewers or 3D editors like Blender. Users often stumble upon these while modding legacy games and find themselves unable to view the textures. Another significant chunk of .nft files belongs to Nemetschek Allplan, where the format serves as an encrypted CAD data container. These are designed to restrict access, meaning you often cannot open them without the specific licensing keys or the original authoring software. A minor subset involves PLC projects for IDEC or AutomationDirect controllers, often compressed via zlib.

Because these formats are highly specialized and often proprietary, direct editing is difficult. For Gamebryo assets, the best workflow is converting to standard formats like TGA or PNG for textures, or OBJ for geometry, allowing for editing in modern tools. For Allplan CAD files, users typically need to request an export to DXF or IFC from the original source to ensure interoperability. If you are stuck with an unreadable .nft file, simply drop it here to identify the specific format version and convert it to a usable standard.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NFT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted NEF, NIF, JPG, XML, PNG, KF, ALO, XMD and CRYPTO files.

The NFT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NFT converter.
