About CRYPTO files
The .CRYPTO file extension is most notoriously known as a Ransomware encrypted file generated by the MedusaLocker ransomware family. Once a system is infected, the malware targets user documents, images, and databases, encrypting them with complex algorithms and appending the .crypto extension to the original filename. Alternatively, .CRYPTO files are legitimately created by MacPaw Encrypto, a cross-platform file encryption utility, or as MPE1 encrypted files by CryptoPrevent. Converting a .CRYPTO file back to its original target formats like PDF, JPG, or DOCX heavily depends on its origin. If the file is an Encrypto archive, it requires the original user-defined password to extract the contents. If the file is a victim of MedusaLocker, traditional conversion is mathematically impossible without the attacker's private decryption key or a publicly released decryptor tool from cybersecurity researchers. The disadvantage of this format is clear: it represents a severe lock on your data, either by design or by malicious attack. Standard online converters fail to process .CRYPTO files because they are not standard media formats but rather tightly locked ciphertext. Only the original software or a specific decryption utility can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. convert.guru can inspect the file's binary headers to determine if it is a legitimate MacPaw archive or a ransomware payload, and show any readable internal metadata.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CRYPTO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CRYPTO file to BASE64, HEX, BIN, ENC, CRYPT, AES, DES, RSA, PGP, GPG, ASC or KEY, you can use MacPaw Encrypto or similar software from the "Encrypted File Archive" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert CER, BIN, PEM, DER, KEY, P7S, PFX, ENC, P12, BASE64, P7B or HEX files to CRYPTO, try MacPaw Encrypto or another comparable tool in the "Encrypted File Archive" category.
The CRYPTO Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CRYPTO converter.
