To convert other file formats to the "Multipurpose Proprietary File" file type, you need software like Agilent MxPro qPCR Software or a similar tool.
About MXP files
The .MXP format is highly fragmented across several different industries. Most frequently, it acts as a Quantitative PCR experiment data file generated by laboratory equipment running Agilent MxPro qPCR Software. Alternatively, it is widely recognized as a legacy Adobe/Macromedia Extension Package used to install plugins into older versions of Adobe Creative Suite. It is also utilized as a Medical 3D model project in Materialise Mimics, and as a User Paths Configuration file in Autodesk 3ds Max.
The main disadvantage of the .MXP format is its heavily proprietary and domain-specific nature. Agilent qPCR data is locked inside a legacy Microsoft Compound container, requiring specific lab software to read and interpret the amplification curves. Similarly, Adobe abandoned the MXP format in favor of the ZIP-based ZXP format, meaning modern Adobe Creative Cloud applications simply reject these legacy extensions without warning. Users working with laboratory .MXP files must use the original software to export the raw data into standard CSV or XLSX formats for statistical analysis in Python or R. For legacy Adobe plugins, users must bridge the gap by converting the file to ZXP using the final supported version of the Extension Manager.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because its internal structure depends entirely on the software that created it - ranging from binary laboratory data and 3D meshes to simple UTF-16 text files. Standard online converters invariably fail to process it because they cannot guess the correct parsing logic. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format (such as the raw UTF-16 text in 3ds Max files or the ZIP structure in Metrix models), viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MXP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MXP file to DLL, SO, DYLIB, BUNDLE, PLUGIN, XPI, CRX, SAFARIEXTZ, APPEX, KEXT, SYS or DRV, you can use Agilent MxPro qPCR Software or similar software from the "Scientific Data & Extension Packages" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert LV2, DYLIB, VST, AAX, DRV, TDE, LADSPA, BUNDLE, AU, DLL, RTAS or SO files to MXP, try Agilent MxPro qPCR Software or another comparable tool in the "Scientific Data & Extension Packages" category.
The MXP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MXP converter.
