About PRM files

The .prm file extension is a "polyglot" container used across vastly different industries, making it notoriously difficult to identify without context. Most commonly, it serves as a Parameter File containing configuration settings for software like Oracle Primavera P6 or industrial hardware like Mitsubishi Electric servo amplifiers. In scientific fields, it stores chromatography data for Agilent ChemStation or DataApex Clarity, while in creative workflows, it functions as a compiled plugin module for Adobe Premiere Pro.

The primary issue with .prm files is proprietary lock-in; a file generated by a plotting machine cannot be opened by video software, and standard text editors often display garbled binary data. To use these files effectively, you must convert them to accessible formats. For project management and settings data, converting to PDF ensures readable archiving, while converting to CSV or XLSX allows for data analysis in spreadsheets. Note that .prm files used as Adobe plugins are executable system files and cannot be converted into media formats like MP4 or JPG.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PRM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PRN, PRM2, PRM5, HCD, PRIN, PLT, PPM, ZIP, TXT, CNT, PDF, JPG and PAT files.

The PRM Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PRM converter.
