The .MPJ file extension is primarily associated with Minitab Project files created by older versions (14-18) of Minitab, a leading statistical analysis software. These files act as containers using the Microsoft Compound binary format to store an entire analysis workflow, including multiple worksheets (data), generated graphs, session history, and report layouts. While efficient for keeping a project organized, .MPJ files are highly proprietary. They cannot be opened natively by standard spreadsheet tools like Microsoft Excel or typical text editors, and they require a paid Minitab license to view. Furthermore, newer versions of Minitab use the MPX format, making .MPJ a legacy standard that may face compatibility hurdles over time.
To share your findings with colleagues who do not have Minitab installed, or to archive data in a future-proof format, conversion is essential.
