About LOD files
.LOD files serve two drastically different primary functions: as game resource archives for classic titles like Heroes of Might and Magic, or as low-resolution 3D models indicating Level of Detail in modern games like Fallout 4. Outside of gaming, .LOD files operate as raw firmware images for Spreadtrum/UNISOC mobile chipsets and Seagate hard drives.
Because the format is highly fragmented across unrelated software ecosystems, standard operating systems cannot open them. Gaming .LOD files are proprietary binary containers locking away 2D sprites, audio files, and 3D meshes without standard archive headers. Firmware .LOD files are strict, machine-readable binary blocks. Opening them with native tools is impossible. Attempting to modify firmware files with standard text editors will instantly corrupt them, risking permanent hardware bricking during a flash update.
To access the internal assets of a gaming .LOD file, conversion or extraction is mandatory. For editing graphics and modding, convert to PNG, BMP, or standard ZIP archives. For audio extraction, convert internal streams to WAV or MP3. For firmware, professionals extract the raw partitions to BIN or PAC formats.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LOD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert LOD file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use MMArchive or similar software from the "Game Resource Archive" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to LOD, try MMArchive or another comparable tool in the "Game Resource Archive" category.
The LOD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LOD converter.
