About KDF files

The .KDF file extension is heavily fragmented and used across several entirely unrelated applications. The most common use case is as a Kindle Database File utilized by the Amazon Kindle for PC application. In this context, it stores local client data, sync states, and library metadata using a standard SQLite structure. Another major usage is the Kodak Image Database File created by the now-discontinued Kodak EasyShare software to cache image thumbnails and EXIF metadata. Other obscure uses include semiconductor test data logs using BZ2 compression for the Advantest V93000 system, fashion textile designs for Lectra Kaledo, and legacy document formats for Kinko's. These proprietary formats are highly frustrating for users. They are not standard documents, meaning you cannot double-click them to view an eBook or an image. The Kindle database restricts access to your own reading library metadata, while the Kodak files trap image catalogs inside a dead software ecosystem that will not run on modern operating systems. To solve these issues, users often want to convert or extract the contents of .KDF files. For Kindle databases, the best target formats are CSV or TXT for tabular data. For Kodak databases, users usually want to extract the cached JPG images. Textile designers may need to extract the GZIP compressed layers to PNG or PDF. However, this file format is extremely difficult to open or convert because these are mostly closed databases or compressed binary containers without a unified standard. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format like SQL, BZ2, or GZIP, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your KDF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted KPF, KCB, KDF-JOURNAL, PDF, EPUB, UNKNOWN, DOCX, ZIP, CZI, RBXM, INDD and KFX-ZIP files.

The KDF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our KDF converter.
