Extract text from CZI files

A .CZI file is a sophisticated, multidimensional image container generated by ZEISS microscopes using ZEN software. Unlike standard photos, these files utilize the ZISRAW format to store up to 5 dimensions of data (X, Y, Z, Time, and Channel) along with extensive XML metadata detailing acquisition parameters like exposure and magnification.
While this format is critical for scientific analysis, it is a key problem for sharing and publication. .CZI files are often massive - frequently exceeding gigabytes - and are completely incompatible with standard web browsers, operating system viewers, and presentation software like PowerPoint. Viewing them typically requires installing the heavy, proprietary ZEISS ZEN suite or configuring complex open-source tools like ImageJ with the Bio-Formats plugin.
To make your data accessible, you should convert .CZI files based on your end goal. For general sharing, presentations, or web use, convert to JPEG or PNG to flatten the layers and drastically reduce file size. For scientific archiving or further analysis in third-party tools, convert to OME-TIFF or standard TIFF to preserve high-bit-depth pixel data.
